San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz

September 2017. Fires on the west coast; devastating hurricanes on the east. This photograph of the Mayor at work in her city slayed me, particularly after she was publicly ridiculed by the president of the United States.
The repeating line “coming for us,” whether it be nobody or somebody, is significant in these times: whether you’re a Dreamer, a person fleeing drought, or a woman in the water with a megaphone . . .
